Note from editorial director, Ryanne Salzano
We at No Exit are excited to announce R.U.R., streaming tomorrow, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. ET. This will be No Exit’s first pre-recorded show in our Fortnightly Reading Series!
Karel Čapek’s R.U.R. premiered nearly 100 years ago, on Jan. 25, 1921. This landmark work introduced the word “robot” to the English language. These early pieces of science fiction, I find, are eerily prescient. I am always fascinated by works that explore how technology affects humanity, and how it affects our own humanity. In our present day of artificial intelligence and machine learning, of robo-calls and Twitter bots, a piece on the struggle between robots and people continues to carry weight.
I hope you’ll stick around after the stream for a Q&A with director Ashley Lauren Rogers, who selected this show, and the rest of the cast. We’ll be sending our “digital playbill” out tomorrow, with a director’s note as well as headshots and bios of our cast.
