Susan Glaspell’s TRIFLES, directed by Zeynep Akca, will be performed today, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. on the No Exit Theatre Collective Facebook page. All shows in our Fortnightly Reading Series are abridged to run less than 90 minutes, with a Q&A with the artists to follow.
Susan Glaspell’s Trifles is directed by Zeynep Akca, co-artistic director.
Director’s note, from Zeynep Akca:
“Murder! Mystery! Leading up to Halloween, it feels exciting to be exploring Trifles by Susan Glaspell, first performed in 1916. This play not only explores themes of a murder mystery, but also domestic relationships and the outside gaze of what goes on in the private life of a married couple. In the current times, it is a reminder that no matter how people might present their relationships or lives in society or on social media, the truth might turn out to be much different and even darker.”
The cast features Denzel McCausland as George Henderson, Nicole Pelini as Henry Peters, Kassandra Perez as Lewis Hale, Renae Raymond as Mrs. Peters, Cheryle Chong as Mrs. Hale, Robert Malbrough, Narrator.
Honoring the activist roots of theatre and our artists is at the core of No Exit Theatre Collective. We seek to affect change with our work. With each production we put on, the creative team selects a social justice organization to support. Our support comes from our virtual tip jar, which is on Venmo @NoExit-TC.
The director for each show selects an activist organization to support. This week, we’re supporting In Our Names Network. Twenty percent of the tips donated to our Venmo tip jar will go to support this organization.
The In Our Names Network is a national network of organizations, campaigns and individuals working to end violence against Black women, girls, trans and gender nonconforming people.
The rest of the tip jar will be split equally among contributing artists on the project.

Robert Malbrough is a Brooklyn-based, Texas-born mover, shaker, and noodle maker with a background in new play development. He made his New York directorial debut last Fall with a roving, site-specific production of An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus on This His Final Evening. Other previous directing credits include an immersive production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Asheville, NC), Abandon All Hope, The Lover, Don’t Talk to Strangers, and The Unexamined Life (Houston, TX). He is currently developing a piece of object theatre based on his many assumptions about the Tony-Winning play The Ferryman, and a post-modern mangling of Titus Andronicus replete with Harry Nillson covers.
